Why Ocarinas’ book? Because it’s Earth! Earth that sounds. A simple, linear, ancestral sound that immediately captivates. An instrument symbolically generated by the popular culture of the peasants of Emilia Romagna, of those who are used to work the land, to catch their moods, almost sighs.

A sound that fully expresses that “playful” dimension of music, including lullabies and nursery rhymes, chanting, sung accompaniments of games and dance music so candidly “childish”. Very pure clay that resembles in its form the profile of a headless goose, the ukrainian, and whose diffusion in the eastern countries (Korea and Japan in particular) almost makes us proud for its imposing itself as a natural and powerful instrument of cultural dialogue between Europe and Asia, or however between countries so far and different.

Finally, this book is the fulfillment of a necessity, it is the proof of love that only a strong passion for music can generate, made of the complicity of the author, Claudio Cedroni, with the other members of the Ocarinistico Budriese Group, of a way of to be and to belong typical of these lands and of a discreet but also very concrete pride. It is the fantastic story of a group that has existed for almost 150 years, of an instrument that is still rapidly evolving from materials, shape and performance praxis, to its inventor and to all those who have been able to imagine the future. As John Cage wrote: “Anyone can be interested”.
